Layin the Pipe

It's DONE. We finally got the damn leak in the yard fixed. Turns out the main pipe that runs to the house was set in the concrete of our walkway. We're still not sure where the leak is at but it's no longer leaking since we laid the pipe. Man, I love that phrase.

Micah called me while I was entrenched in the mud and putting down new pipe. I guess he was calling to see if I would be logging on World of Warcraft so he asked me what I was doing.
"I'm laying the pipe." I said with a grin.
"No need to get graphic."
"Lana says hi."

We had to buy a six foot piece of metal pipe, an end cap for the metal pipe, a sledge hammer, and new PVC. Between the two of us we pounded the metal pipe with the cape on under the concrete and ran the new pipe through it. We were originally going to lay down all new pipe but we couldn't make arrangements to borrow a truck for a trench digger in time so we just connected it to the old pipe running to the garage. Turns out it tee's somewhere in the yard after all since we got water to the house too when we turned the water back on. By the time we were gluing the PVC together my only true motivation was a shower since we turned off the water and cut the broken line. It was get it done tonight or we sleep like dirty dogs with no water. There was a second motivation as well but my quests were all but finished so there was no real rush. Fucking Warcraft.

After we showered, we spent a relaxing evening in the office. Marcel played with his toys, helped me on a few quests, and Lana played poker online trying to get to a table with Phil Ivey. He went offline before she ever got a table with him but she tripled her money at the cash tables. I cleared off my quest log and made it to level fifteen. :)

It was a good day.

The Plumbing Blues

I hate doing plumbing work. I really do. Turns out we have a very slow leak in the yard that has slowly progressed to a slow and steady leak. My backyard looks like a mortar-shelled beach with holes and trenches all over. The past few days I've been digging holes tracing the plumbing from the house to the leak. Turns out the line coming from my house out to the meter is buried close to three feet down and tee's off to the garage under the concrete walkway. I voted for the plumber or the home insurance but Lana voted no on it. I reaaaaally hate digging and doing plumbing work. There's so many other things I'd much rather be doing. It's amazing all the stuff I can think of to do rather than - that.

Micah and Chris have been like little crack addicts stabbing the vain every time they belly up their computer for a fix of World of Warcraft. Last few times I talked to Micah it was the first thing out his mouth. "You got it yet?" I feel like I'm in The Mouth of Madness where everyone keeps asking, "Do you read Sutter Kane?" World of Warcraft has ate them and replaced them with pod people. I'll be breaking the vain as soon as I get this damn plumbing shit done. I can only hope that I don't get sucked down the rabbit hole as bad as them but I have a sinking feeling I won't be that lucky. The image of them sneaking the game in on my computer keeps creeping up on me like the way the pod people would hide pods under the beds of unsuspecting sleeping folks.

I'm pretty tired today but I think it just comes from a lack of quality sleep. I've been staying up way to late and getting up earlier than my body is used to. Today I think I'll try to finish my new canister filter for the fish tank. Yeah, a new DIY project. I've been photographing it as I go so it should be up on the website in the next few years or so. ;)

well, that's all for now folks...

Home Sweet Home

I'm a little tired still even though I slept in a bit today. Micah, Chris and me drove out to this new paintball field, Tactical Paintball, to play in a big scenario game. Chris had gotten off of work at seven in the morning, after working a full twelve hour shift, and went to get Micah. They then came to pick me up. I had crawled into bed around four thirty in the morning after playing poker all night. Amazingly enough we stayed awake the whole way there including Micah, who drove.

The field was really impressive. Over a dozen buildings, a few two story buildings, a few helicopters, some trenches, some smoke bombs, and lots of bushes. Thorn bushes. Cacti too. Ignore that, and you've got a really awesome field. It's just ashame the scenario really sucked. There really wasn't enough motivation for the two opposing forces to engage each other once the primary objective of taking the town and pilot was reached. Nevermind the team colors were a really poor choice. Olive green and dirt brown. Now keep in mind most folks were in cameo. So for the last hour or so we bunkered down and lobbed paintballs at each other waiting for the horn to blow with no real moves being made. We left to come home at that point, a little disappointed. We've decided we can run a much better scenario game and I have to agree. Time to start looking on Har again.

We tried roleplaying when we got home but everyone was exhausted, including me. Chris fell asleep on the coach waiting for everyone. Allison, who pushed for roleplaying, bailed on us and went to bed. Micah was dozing at the table. I was trying to remember where the party was at any given moment as I drifted off. It's amazing they got anything accomplished. I slept like a baby. I don't even remember what time Lana got in bed. She and the girls were in the office playing poker all night while we gave up roleplaying for sleep around two in the morning.
Today's plan is to finally take down the Christmas tree. I will take down the Christmas tree. I will take down the Christmas tree. I've also got a mountain of clean laundry to fold and put away.

I'm rather looking forward to a boring uneventful day.

A New Year

hammackboy02Another Christmas is in the bag. This year was particularly nice. My brother and Xiomara spent the Christmas eve with us and stayed the night. We played poker while we waited for all the kiddos to fall asleep, then we finished wrapping everything. It was really nice watching all the kids unwrap their presents together. It brought back a lot of memories of Mike and me tearing into presents together. Funny how when I watch the kids open their presents I don't do so from the perspective of a father. I sit there remembering what it was like and feeling all happy inside remembering and knowing how they feel, with maybe a little envy. Then again, maybe it is with the perspective of a father.
The past few days have been a bit nuts. My computer is still dead so I've been stuck using Lana's or the MAME box. Most of my files are on Lana's computer, but Don's been camped out in front of it the past week so it makes it tough to blog, work, read, etc. The MAME box is nice but it's a killer on the back sitting by the window. Maybe that's what's been killing my lower back the past few weeks. humph.
New Year's we spent hanging out with Micah, Kelly, and Barb. The Lana and Barb read everyone's cards for the new year and we sat around laughing and joking. It was a pretty kicked back night. Turns out my cards said I'm going to have lots of really shitty months followed by some really great highs. I'm not sure I should celebrate. My Cartouche reading was a very positive one though. Lots of change, according to the cards. Funny. I've been feeling the definite need for that lately but I just can't seem to get out of this rut.
New year's resolutions? First, drop back a notch on the belt. The holidays weren't nice to my belt and all my hard work was undone in just a few months. I need to lay off the milk shakes, ice cream and chocolate. I think it's time to follow through with a few of those things I've been wanting to do. Walking the dogs, work with their training more, get the bus wiring done, etc. According to the cards it's the right time. Self manifestation blah blah blah... ;)
I need to be a little more physically active. I used to love playing baseball, swimming, football, and volleyball. While I was never what would be considered a jock being that I suck at most sports, I do love playing. So there it is I guess. To be more physically active.
